The Weather app on your iPhone can do more than just display daily forecasts—it can send you real-time precipitation alerts so you know when it’s about to rain or snow in your area. This guide covers everything you need to know to enable and customize rain notifications using Apple’s native Weather app.
Launch the Weather app on your iPhone. Once open, locate the list icon (☰) positioned at the bottom-right corner of the screen and tap it to view your saved locations. Next, click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top-right corner and select Notifications.
Rain alerts rely on your precise location to provide accurate and timely information. If the app does not have the required permission, you'll see a 'Current Location' alert at the top. Tap on 'Go to Settings' from the prompt. You’ll go to Location Services find Weather from the list and select Always from the options.
Use the toggle key to turn on Next -Hour Precipitation or, if desired, Severe Weather. This will send you an alert if there is rainfall in the next hour.
To monitor precipitation in other areas, return to the Notifications menu and select any saved location from your list. Repeat the same toggle activation process described in Step 3 for each desired location. This is particularly valuable for tracking weather in your hometown, workplace, or travel destinations, providing tailored updates without manual checks.
With precipitation alerts enabled, your iPhone becomes an even more powerful assistant—helping you plan your day and avoid being caught in the rain. Give it a try next time the sky looks gloomy!
