4 Don'ts to Charge Your Mobile Phone

Jun 18, 2024

In today's fast-paced life, mobile phones have become indispensable. These handy devices keep us connected, whether it's through voice calls, text messages, or social media. As the usage time of mobile phones increases, we find that the standby time of mobile phones (the time that can be used after being fully charged) is getting shorter and shorter, and the battery health is getting worse and worse, which is what we often call the battery durability. Why is this?

Reasons for the reduction of lithium-ion battery life

1. Overcharge or over discharge of mobile phone battery

When lithium-ion battery is deeply charged and discharged, the structure of its positive and negative electrode materials may be damaged, and the space that can accommodate lithium ions becomes less, and then its capacity is reduced, which is what we often call the reduction of battery life.

2. Charging under overcold or overheated conditions

When using mobile phones, lithium batteries have high temperature requirements, and their normal working (discharge) temperature range is between 0 °C and 35 °C (32 °F and  95 °F).

If lithium batteries are used under low temperature conditions, not only will the battery capacity be less than usual, but there is also a risk of battery short circuit; charging lithium batteries under high temperature conditions may change the structure of lithium ion positive and negative electrodes, resulting in irreversible attenuation of battery capacity.

4 Things to note when charging your phone

1. Playing with your phone while charging

If you play with your phone while charging, especially when running large apps, it is easy to cause the phone to heat up and damage the battery. In addition, there are safety hazards.

2. Frequently charge your phone from too low to full power

Overcharging or over-discharging the phone battery will cause damage. Generally speaking, keep the phone at a moderate battery level and charge it as you use it.

3. Wrong charging order

When charging, you should first plug the plug into the socket, and then plug the data cable into the phone.

If the order is reversed, a large surge may occur in an instant, and long-term use may cause certain damage to the phone.

After charging, you should unplug the phone first, then unplug the charger, otherwise it is easy to generate reverse instantaneous current, which may cause accelerated battery aging and shortened battery life.

4. Use non-original chargers

The original charger of the mobile phone is designed according to the configuration of the mobile phone itself, which can better protect the battery. Mixing chargers may cause problems such as failure to charge quickly and heating of the mobile phone. Unbranded and uncertified inferior chargers are more harmful to the battery.
