The Power menu in Windows 11 provides quick access to options such as Sleep, Shut down, and Restart. If you frequently lock your computer when stepping away from your desk, adding the Lock option to the Power menu can make it more convenient. On the other hand, some users may prefer to remove it to simplify the menu. This guide explains several ways to add or remove the Lock option in the Windows 11 Power menu.
This method works on all editions of Windows 11, including Windows 11 Home.
1. Press Win + R, type control, and press Enter to open Control Panel. Alternatively, search for "Control Panel" in the taskbar search box.
2. In the Control Panel window, click Power Options.
3. Click Choose what the power buttons do in the left pane.
4. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
5. Under Shutdown Settings, you'll see a checkbox labeled Lock – Show in account picture menu. Check it to add the Lock option, or uncheck it to remove the Lock option.
6. Click Save changes.
For users running Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, or Education editions, the Local Group Policy Editor provides a more centralized way to manage this setting.
1. Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
2. Navigate to the following path:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > File Explorer
3. In the right pane, find the setting named Show lock in the user tile menu and double-click to edit it.
4. Configure the setting:

5. Click Apply and OK to save your changes.
If you're using Windows 11 Home or prefer a registry-based approach, you can achieve the same result through the Registry Editor.
1. Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
2. Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FlyoutMenuSettings
3. Look for a value named ShowLockOption. If it doesn't exist, right-click in the right pane, select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it ShowLockOption.
4. Double-click ShowLockOption and set its value to 1 to show the lock option, or 0 to remove it.
If you frequently step away from your computer, keeping the Lock command easily accessible can help improve both privacy and security. Choose the method that best suits your needs and Windows 11 edition. Remember, these changes only affect the visibility of the Lock option in the Start menu's Power menu—the ability to lock your PC using Windows key + L remains available regardless of which method you use.
