Windows 11 shows small tooltips (info tips) when you hover over icons, taskbar buttons, or files in File Explorer. Some users find these pop-ups distracting and would rather not see them at all—or only after a very long hover delay. If you’re one of these users, then the good news is that disabling tooltips is not only possible but very easy. Here’s how to stop them from appearing. Disable Explorer Tooltips
This method will not disable all pop-ups, but will take care of tooltips that appear in Windows Explorer.
1. Open File Explorer and click the three dots on the top menu bar. Choose Options from the menu.

2. Click the View tab. In the Advanced settings section, scroll down and uncheck Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items.
3. Click Apply and OK to finish.

If you’re looking to remove tooltips completely, along with some other UI popups, you can do this by editing the ShowInfoTip value in the Registry. Remember to back up your registry before making any changes.
1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialogue, then type regedit to enter.
2. Once in the Registry Editor window, follow this path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced
3. Double-click the ShowInfoTip value and change the Value to 0.

4. Press OK once and restart your machine.
Suppose you want to disable almost all other tooltips (taskbar icons, desktop icons, etc.). In that case, you can make Windows wait an extremely long time before showing them.
1. Again, in the Registry Editor window, follow this path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelMouse
2. In the right pane, find the string (REG_SZ) value named MouseHoverTime.
3. Double-click it to change the value to an extended period from the default value of 10. Press OK once done.

4. Restart the system to take effect.
With this method, the tooltips will still pop up, but only after an extended hover. Thus, you can ensure that you call up the tooltips only when you really need them.
In just a few clicks, you can regain control over Windows 11’s tooltip behavior. If you only want to silence File Explorer info-tips, the View settings in Folder Options will do the trick. For a more thorough removal, editing the ShowInfoTip entry in the Registry lets you eliminate pop-up descriptions system-wide.
