How to Enable New Dark Mode Dialogs in Windows 11

Nov 11, 2025

Microsoft is gradually rolling out a proper dark mode for legacy dialog boxes in Windows 11, bringing visual consistency to elements like the Run dialog and Folder Options. While these improvements are currently hidden in Insider builds, you can enable them manually with a few simple steps.
 New Dark Mode Dialogs

Step 1. Download ViVeTool

1. Get the latest version of ViVeTool from its official GitHub website
Download ViVeTool

2. Extract the ZIP file's contents to an easily accessible folder, such as C:ViveTool.

Step 2. Open Command Prompt as Administrator

Search for Command Prompt in Windows Search, right-click the result, and select Run as administrator.

Step 3. Run the Command to Enable the Feature

1. In the Command Prompt window, change to the directory where you extracted ViVeTool using this command:

cd c:\folder\path\ViveTool-v0.x.x

2. Enter the following command to enable the Dark Mode feature:

vivetool /enable /id:57857165,57994323,48433719,49453572,58383338,59270880,59203365
Run the Command to Enable the Feature

Step 4. Restart your PC

After the restart, continue to turn it on in Taskbar settings.

Verify the Changes

After your computer restarts, you can verify that the dark mode is active by checking the following elements:

  • Run Dialog: Press Windows Key + R. The dialog should now have a dark background.
  • Folder Options: Open File Explorer, click the ... menu in the toolbar, and select Options. The Folder Options window should now be dark.
  • File Operations: Try copying or moving a file to see the dark progress bar and dialog.

Conclusion

The redesigned dark mode dialogs bring Windows 11 one step closer to a fully unified visual experience. While the feature is still rolling out, ViveTool allows you to try it early and enjoy a more consistent and modern interface. As Microsoft continues fine-tuning system design, more legacy UI elements are expected to be updated in future builds.
